Suddenly firefights had some weight behind them because the encounters are smaller and enemies pack a bigger punch. The first thing I noticed was the ammo scarcity. The gameplay is also a step up from Infinite. Episode 1's ending is a little ballsy, but that's admirable I suppose. It's not answered all the satisfyingly, but it's good enough to not taint my head canon and the mystery that lead up to it. ![]() I was interested not only in where the story was going, but was sort of alternate universe mumbo jumbo was allowing these two to go on this adventure in this first place. The noir aesthetic is lovely here, the dialogue between Booker and Elizabeth was almost surreal given events past in Infinite. The story ends up getting a little too canon obsessed for my liking, but at least it's right at the end. I love the idea of a complete "what if" story with infinite's characters in Rapture. But this and especially episode 2 I had a blast with. Both the gameplay and narrative pulled me in more than any of the other games have before and I'm scratching my head as to why? I've generally enjoyed the previous Bioshock games, but never really loved them. It feels weird to say it but the two "Burial at Sea" DLCs for infinite might be my favorite Bioshock content period. Off to episode 2 now for the grand reveal. One in particular that takes place at the start of this DLC still stays with me, though I wouldn't really make it justice trying to reformulate it here. There's not a lot of story exposition here, but the little bits of dialogue sprinkled throughout are excellent. Stealth is a bit more viable here, though clunky, and not an approach I found myself using much past the first half hours or so. This creates an incentive to explore as much as possible, which is great, as it puts the lite immersive sim aspects of this DLC into the spotlight. It feels a lot more like a survival shooter rather than an action shooter compared to infinite, and this approach fits the setting really well, as it makes absolute sense for Fountaine's sunken empire to have been looted by splicers extensively by this point. On the hard difficulty, just a few shots can take you from shield + full health to almost zero. We are finally allowed to carry multiple weapons, which is pretty much a requirement as the DLC is more difficulty than the base game. I thought I explored everything but I just found out after finishing that I totally missed a coded door. The levels are a lot more dense, with optional areas and rooms. It is quite clear that the developers wanted to create something that is perhaps more akin to the initial vision they had for Infinite. Even though it is short, it is like a goodbye letter to the series. I'm excited to play the next part soon.Ģh 22m Played A marked improvement from the base game, albeit Part 1 is more like the prologue to the masterpiece that is Part 2. I know a longer game doesn't equal to a better game, but 3 hours were way too short for me to develop any attachment to the story and the character growth. Even if you explore every corner of the area and find every secret, it only takes 3 hours to finish. The only shortcoming I could see was that it is extremely short. And since the gunplay in Infinite had a significant upgrade from the previous games, it was amazing because it felt like I was playing the first Bioshock game with improved combat mechanics. ![]() Vigors (Plasmids) are rebalanced for the player not to spam Shock Jockey. Sometimes you need to sneak on enemies to save your ammo. You can carry multiple guns now, and ammo became way more scarce so you need to carefully manage your arsenal. ![]() The gameplay of this DLC is tweaked to resemble the one of the first Bioshock game, and it's great. This DLC doesn't provide you enough information to understand the setting unless you're already familiar with it. And secondly, I highly recommend you to play Bioshock 1 and the original game first to understand anything from this DLC. 30 fps is not ideal, but it worked without any problem. ![]() First of all, I've played on Switch and it worked just fine. 3h PlayedThis DLC is better than I expected! Even better than the original game.
